Grade 5 Science - Sublimation

Watch the video and check in with a comment when you are finished. For homework, write a definition of sublimation, write three cool things that you saw in the video and list three questions that you have after watching the video. You can share it with me as a Google Doc or you can write it out on paper.

  1. hey ---- is in the house :) own im the first to comment i rock p.s. cheese is awesome
    my queston:WHY does sublimation happen?

  3. My definition of sublimation is when matter skips a stage from a solid to a gas. Three cool things about this video is if you over heat it would become good road tar,in the video the sublimation made crystals, and another thing that is cool is it showed you what would happen if you were not careful. Three questions are what material did they use? What are other examples of sublimation? Also why do you need both heat and cold energy. By Glynis

  5. oh and yes my definition of a sublimation is when it skips a step in the 3 phases of matter SOLID-LIQUID-GAS
but a sublimation would be SOLID-GAS and lots of cool things with molecules, it talked about heating it and then it would become road tar
Q1: IS THIS REALLY HOW THEY MAKE ROAD TAR?
    Q2:WHY DOES SUBLIMATION HAPPEN
Q3:THER IS A THIRD STATE OF MATTER PLASMA WHAT WOULD A SUBLIMTION BE INCLUDING PLASMA?
    Q2:

  10. My definition of sublimation is when a solid skips the liquid phase and becomes a gas.Three cool things I saw in the video are that if you are not careful you might have the lid stick to the ice bath. Also if you over heat the material it will be destroyed but you will have road tar. The last cool thing is that sublimation can create crystals.

    Q.1)Why were the crystals formed?

Q.2)Why did they use a powder substance?

Q.3)Why do you have to let it cool?

    AWESOME AIDAN!!!!!!!

  11. hey its _____ is when a solid skips liquid phase and becomes gas .
    Q1.why does sublimation happen?
Q2.why do you have to let it cool?
Q3.are there any other examples of sublimation

  12. I HAVE THREE COOL THING THAT I SAW IN THE VIDEO.FIRST IS WHEN DR.SARAH TOBACCO SHOW HOW TO DO THE CRYSTALS WITH THE SUBLIMATION(IT WAS COOL). THE SECOND COOL THING IS WHEN SHE TAUGHT HOW TO THE SUBLIMATION PROPERLY. THE LAT COOL THING IS WHEN THE CAUTION APPEARED IN THE VIDEO AND TELL ME ABOUT THE PROBLEMS IF YOU MAKE MISTAKES.

    DEFINITION:
SUBLIMATION IS WHEN THE SOLIDS TURNS TO LIQUUID AND BECOME GAS.

FIRST QUESTION IS: WHY DOES IMPURITIES CANNOT SUBLIME?

SECOND QUESTION IS : WHAT IS THE BROWN THING THAT THEY USED THE SUBLIMATION?

THIRD QUESTION: how can overheating destroy your materials?

  13. Sublimation is when a solid phase skips the process and goes straight to a gas phase.
1 cool thing was the experiment.
Another cool thing were the crystals.
I really liked the ice bath. It reminded me of dry ice.
Q1.What was the powdery material she used to make the crystals?
Q2.Are there any other types of sublimation?
Q3.How high do you have to heat the hot plate?
    RILEY IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

  14. sublimation is when a solid skips becoming a liquid and goes straight to becoming a gas
Q1:what did she put in the container thingy
Q2:why doesn't the ice bath melt into a liquid
Q3:why does it have to cool

  15. sublimation is when a solid becomes gas skipping a form in the middle of both of them (liquid)

Q1) how come they did not make the words on the blackboard clear, why put them at all if we can not read them?

Q2) what is a culture dish?

Q3) Impure supply of what(at least give us an idea)?

    cool parts

it is cool how the solid skipped a form of matter.

it is cool that there were "cautions" telling you to be careful.

it is cool that they showed what it might look like when you mess up.
